Carey Gardens

The Project

NYCHA has been improving the Carey Gardens housing complex following damage caused by Hurricane Sandy’s tidal surge. Tri-State Civil Construction was responsible for deep well installation as part of the construction of improvements at NYCHA’s Carey Gardens complex.

The Solution

As part of this effort, Tri-State Groundwater prepared applications for and obtained the NYSDEC Long Island Well Permit and DEP Groundwater Discharge Permit.

The Challenge

The initial dewatering process encountered a significant challenge in the form of corrosive brackish water, which caused damage to the treatment system equipment. In response to this issue, the team had to devise a solution that involved designing and reinstalling valves, pumps, and fittings that were resistant to salt water. This proactive approach was necessary to ensure the efficient and effective operation of the system, ultimately allowing for its successful restoration and functionality.
