Project Overview

Tri-State Civil Construction was selected by Tutor Perini to perform the complete field installation and testing operations for more than 70 tiebacks, as part of the support-of-excavation work for the Brooklyn Jail Facility at 275 Atlantic Avenue.

Tri-State mobilized and completed drilling and installation of all assigned tiebacks within the same month. Using a Comacchio MC-14 drill rig, the crew installed the anchors through sandy subsurface conditions and performed all associated field operations, including drilling, causing
advancement, anchor installation, grouting, testing, and lock-off.

The work was performed within a constrained urban site surrounded by active streets, existing utilities, and nearby NYCT infrastructure. The project required careful coordination and experienced equipment operation to complete the tiebacks safely while limiting impacts to surrounding facilities. The project drawings included extensive monitoring requirements for nearby buildings, support-of-excavation elements, and NYCT structures.

Scope of Work

Tri-State furnished a complete tieback installation for all assigned tiebacks at Brooklyn Jail Facility. This installation included associated field operations, extensive monitoring of nearby buildings, drilling, casing advancement, anchor installation, grouting, testing, lock-off, and an experienced field team.

Working withing the constrained urban site required careful coordination and experienced equipment operation. Tiebacks required safe installation while limiting impacts to surrounding facilities and existing utilities.

Throughout the project duration, Tri-State subsequently completed testing of all installed tiebacks. The experienced field team provided the additional operational support needed to maintain and improve the project schedule, successfully completed all required anchor testing, and finished its work without a safety incident.
